A Necessary End by Holly Brown is a very highly recommended, dark, sometimes funny, sometimes perversely skewed novel of psychological suspense about an adoption among disagreeable people.

The end of the book has a few twists but those plot lines fell flat. I wonder if she and her editor worked with many different endings and decided on one that was the least satisfying and morose.
